Social vs PhantomBuster: LinkedIn Research and Outreach
PhantomBuster fits a repeatable extraction and enrichment pipeline that produces a dataset. Social fits a founder who wants an agent to investigate a short list and prepare the next account action from the context it finds.
Facts checked October 14, 2026 · Documented workflows, not firsthand tests
Which should you choose?
Choose Social if
your research changes with the customer problem and you want the same agent to move from reading to a reviewed reply, connection request, or message.
Choose PhantomBuster if
a predefined extraction or enrichment automation matches your input and output needs. PhantomBuster has MCP too; its repeatable automations and export workflow are the reason to choose it.
Switching probably isn’t worth it if an existing Phantom already returns the fields your downstream system expects. Replacing a stable dataset pipeline with agent orchestration adds work without improving that output.
The same job, two workflows
Find and shortlist 100 LinkedIn prospects
Start with: One LinkedIn account, a search for marketing managers, a target of 100 results, and a fit rubric covering company and role. Produce a reviewable dataset and shortlist before sending outreach.
Use this evaluation brief
Replace the bracketed input with your own approved data. This is a prompt to reproduce the comparison, not a tested result or authorization to send.
Input: search for "marketing manager" on LinkedIn, target 100 records, [company and role fit rubric]. Return profile URL, name, role, company, and evidence of fit. Stop at 100 results or exhaustion, and report the actual count and any failures. Keep missing fields visible. Export the rows and shortlist ten prospects. Do not send outreach. Compare fields and duplicates before deciding which workflow to retain.
Social
- Connect your LinkedIn account and give your agent the search intent and fit rubric.
- Ask it to search LinkedIn people and follow pagination until it reaches 100 records or the results are exhausted. Save source URLs and mark missing fields explicitly.
- Apply the rubric to the returned records, save JSON or map it to a CSV, and draft outreach for the selected prospects. Review recipients and text before authorizing any write.
Output: Search results and a source-linked fit assessment in the agent workflow, followed by drafts you can review.
PhantomBuster
- Connect the LinkedIn session using the documented setup and select LinkedIn Search Export.
- Supply the LinkedIn search URL, set the requested result count to 100, and configure the launch schedule.
- Run the automation and export the dataset to CSV or Google Sheets. Apply the same rubric and draft outreach in your downstream analysis workflow.
Output: A structured search-result dataset for export and downstream analysis. Add enrichment or sending automations separately if the job needs them.
These steps follow the documentation; we haven’t tested the workflows firsthand. Follow the Social setup instructions and PhantomBuster workflow documentation, then compare the output before committing.
What changes your decision

| Requirement | Social | PhantomBuster |
|---|---|---|
| Agent access | Hosted MCP and CLI. Bring your own agent to combine research, messages, publishing, and engagement; you define the workflow. | MCP is included in the published plans. Agents can use PhantomBuster while retaining its automation and execution model. |
| Input and output | CLI reads return JSON, and explicit sync can populate a local SQLite mirror for SQL queries. Design your own CSV or CRM mapping from the returned data. | LinkedIn Search Export takes a search URL and produces structured profile rows. It can feed enrichment or connection steps; verify the fields before building downstream mapping. |
| Capacity limits | LinkedIn is priced per connected account with flat proxy usage. Provider restrictions and account safeguards still apply; there is no promised daily outreach volume. | Start includes 20 execution hours/month and five automation slots. A slot is an automation capacity unit, not a LinkedIn sender seat. Time and account restrictions constrain the usable workload. |
| Permissions and setup | The grant defines access, and the account selector chooses the connected identity. Write tools execute real actions; your MCP client or agent must obtain your approval. | LinkedIn Search Export requires a connected session. Treat session access as account access and validate the setup with the account owner. |
| Exports and team access | CLI JSON and a local SQLite mirror can feed your own exports. Team sharing and downstream report delivery are part of the workflow you build. | Paid plans list unlimited data export and unlimited users. Export CSV or connect results to Google Sheets; execution hours and slots remain plan limits. |
Price the same scenario
One operator, one LinkedIn account, 100 requested search results, and one month. For PhantomBuster, assume the pilot fits within Start’s 20 execution hours and five automation slots; no runtime benchmark was performed.
Social
1 connected LinkedIn account × $20 = $20/month. LinkedIn proxy usage is flat, with no credit top-ups.
PhantomBuster
Start: $69/month on monthly billing. The advertised $56/month is the annual rate, totaling $672 for the year, and is excluded from this monthly comparison. The plan includes 20 execution hours and five slots.
These are product subscription costs, not the full cost of operating a workflow. Your AI client or model, LinkedIn subscription, implementation time, and taxes are excluded on both sides. Flat pricing is not unlimited permission to act: account and provider limits still apply. Additional extraction or enrichment steps may consume other allowances. Check the selected automation’s runtime and credit requirements before assuming a larger list fits Start.
Before you switch
- Export the datasets and save the input sheets, schedules, field mappings, deduplication rules, and downstream integrations. Keep the original data until the replacement output is checked.
- Reconnect the LinkedIn identity in Social rather than transferring a session cookie. Rebuild the extraction, enrichment, scheduling, and data-delivery steps your Phantom pipeline performed.
- Run the same search and compare missing fields, duplicate handling, freshness, and recipient matching. Search ranking and completeness may differ; neither has been benchmarked here. Stop the previous automation for that cohort before approving outreach from the replacement.

How we prepared this comparison
Prepared by Social, the product being compared, with Cyrus Nouroozi as the responsible author. Facts checked October 14, 2026 against the linked public pricing and product documentation and Social’s implementation. Competitor features are documented only, not tested firsthand. Prices are USD before tax. We have not measured deliverability, account restriction rates, or performance. Product changes require checking the affected claims and calculations again.
